This weekend was pretty damn fun. Four sets played in beautiful weather and camping with the band (thanks for having us, Red Frog Events). It was also my Sax player's birthday. If you know him personally, or have at least seen him play, you'll know that he's completely insane. At one point he simply disappeared into the woods. Occasionally you'd see humanoid shapes darting about from the dark forest corners. Was it my Sax player? Or a shirtless, pasty-white slenderman? We'll never know...
Fortunately, we're back. Safe in Lansing. Preparing for fest of the moon! Seeya next Friday!
Over three years ago I released my first record, the Hard Times LP. I had just started writing songs and "producing" - almost all of it was put together my dorm room...
I started playing at Kaya coffee during my junior year and threw a release party. There were only 50 CD's... all hand made with original drawings on all of the surfaces. Each had a set of 5 photos that I'd taken.
It takes a long time to find your voice and that old record marked the very beginning of my search. But despite its shortcomings, I couldn't have been more proud of the 50 CD project. I never liked the art all that much for On Being (aside for the inside flap with the lion, which I think is amazing) - so I wanna re-visit the hand drawn vibe for this next record. I'm well underway and super effin stoked about it. Think... a really detailed illustration for every song + more.
So I just found out that I have a show tomorrow at the Kzoo Public Library from 2-4pm. We're also apparently playing a two hour set, so if you're interested in hearing our 18+ song/live catalog along with solo stuff and covers, come on out. It's FREE by the way.
Harry Potter and Katniss Everdeen will be there. There's also a 37% chance that there will be mini bagels and/or plain donut holes.
